Ever since I found out about the One netlabel, I’ve been a happy listener of their offerings. This nice release offers crackles and noises in a pleasant way. The (german) vocals that are used here and there, though occasionally a bit whining, fit in with the atmosphere of the music. Very nice. I somehow missed that first release but caught on to it after the gorgeous ambient undertaking he did for Autoplate, Tiefe Berge. Needless to say, Sandkorn was far different from Tiefe Berge - one being ambient the other abstract electronic music with slick rhythms and instrumentation as well as vocals. Feinquisit follows in the foot steps of Sandkorn (actually, it seems to predate Sandkorn and I think that is noticable). Sandkorn possessed an uncanny ability to be rhythmic, abstract, and melodic at the same time. It also featured one of the best netlabel singles of 2005 with the track "Everywhere is Shut". Feinquisit does the same with "Geteiltes Sein".. the sole vocal track on the album (again sung in German). One seems to nearly have a corner on the world of avant-pop electronic and experimental music within the netlabel realm if ony they concentrated on it more.. but, that's probably harder than expected as quality material of such music that isn't too kitche is probably hard to come by. Anyways, while I don't find Feinquisit to be as complete and solid as Sandkorn (though there is no pretending that it would be) and while it takes a much more sacastic and nearly humorus approach to his style, it is still a highly unique and entertaining record and with the first 2 tracks at least - is still on par with that previous outting. I hate to draw comparisons but there is also something similar to MoM in much of his music, but no direct references or an attempt to sound like someone.
